Update:  The Governor has signed SB2135.  The new law (known as Public Act 101-0640) is effective immediately.  As a result, the SB2135 requirements (explained in the attached legal update) are in effect.  If you have questions regarding Open Meetings Act procedures or other issues relating to the COVID-19 pandemic, please contact our firm.

In the final hours of the General Assembly’s legislative session, SB2135 passed both houses.  SB2135, referred to as the Government Emergency Administration Act, memorializes Executive Orders implemented by Governor Pritzker in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and expands on the State’s response to this public health crisis.  While this bill awaits the Governor’s signature, Governor Pritzker issued an Executive Order 2020-39 that extends the current suspension of Open Meetings Act in-person meeting requirements through June 27, 2020 or until SB2135 in enacted and takes effect, whichever occurs first.
