IDPH has re-issued one of the guidance documents, Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for Schools Additional Guidance as of January 4, 2021 (without changing the March 16th issuance date), which includes a significant change from the original version.
The IDPH now defines a school staff member as “fully vaccinated” only if the time period for that individual at the time of the COVID-19 exposure is equal to or greater than 2 weeks following receipt of (a) the second dose in a 2-dose series vaccine, or (b) one dose of a single-dose vaccine. The IDPH removed the criteria that the staff member must have received the last dose of the vaccine within the last three months at the time of the exposure to be considered fully vaccinated.
This is good news for school districts and special education cooperatives in determining whether a staff member must quarantine after a COVID-19 exposure.
